Botox
Treatments
Seidenberg Protzko is proud to use BOTOX in the treatment of various therapeutic eye corrections, and for cosmetic improvement. BOTOX is used for the treatment of blepharospasms (blinking spasms) and quite often for cosmetic use, primarily for smoothing wrinkles around the eyes or between the eyebrows.
Blepharospasm
is a disorder of the muscles that control eyelid movement.
Spasms of the eyelid lead to frequent blinking and can effect
both eyelids, making it difficult to open them. In severe
cases, this debilitating condition can lead to what is known
as “functional blindness,” an inability to open
the eyelids for any significant period of time.
Approximately
75% of patients with blepharospasm are female and the average
age at onset is 56 years old. Although the exact cause of
the disorder is unknown, experts believe that it may be caused
by an inappropriate signal in part of the brain. Doctors diagnose
blepharospasm based on key signs and symptoms including irritation
and discomfort of the eyelids and an increase in blinking,
which can be exacerbated by bright or flickering lights, dusty
or smoky air and high-speed travel by train or car. Without
proper medical treatment, most patients with blepharospasm
do not recover. When injected in the affected facial and eye muscles, BOTOX relieves muscle spasms and can be reinjected every three
months to continue to treat the disorder.
BOTOX
can also be used to smooth wrinkles around the eyes. A simple,
ten-minute treatment consisting of a few tiny injections,
BOTOX treatments, when administered by a a doctor, can show
significant improvement within a few days and can last up to four
months. The treatments are surprisingly affordable, relatively
painless, and most patients go right back to work or continue
their activities immediately after the procedure. |
