Laser Vision Correction

For more and more people, Laser Vision Correction, commonly known as LASIK, is no longer being considered as a luxury item but something they deserve—a life changing yet quick and usually painless procedure that can dramatically improve and in most cases, completely restore their vision within 24 hours, giving them back freedom from glasses or contact lenses.

Vision correction involves surgical techniques that correct or reduce nearsightedness, farsightedness and/or astigmatism. With new technology in laser vision correction, more people than ever are able to participate in activities that they love and a lifestyle with more freedom from glasses than ever before.

Seidenberg Protzko offers several outpatient surgery options to correct your vision:

CustomVue™ Individualized Laser Vision Correction is the new standard in laser vision correction.  Using Wavefront-guided technology originally developed for use in high-powered telescopes to reduce distortions when viewing distant objects in space, this technology has now been applied to laser vision correction.  This technology measures imperfections in the eye never able to be measured before by standard methods used for glasses and contact lenses. Wavefront-guided technology produces a detailed map of the eye, much like a fingerprint.  This digital information is transferred to the laser, providing a customized level of precision and accuracy for each individual.

Standard Lasik treats low to high levels of nearsightedness and astigmatism and low to moderate levels of farsightedness, by reshaping the cornea.  In Standard Lasik, a thin flap of cornea is partially lifted from the surface of the cornea, permitting laser treatment of the exposed inner portion of the cornea. Following the laser treatment, the corneal flap is repositioned.  The corneal tissue has extraordinary, natural bonding qualities that allow effective healing without the use of stitches.

The IntraLase Method™ is a 100% blade-free approach to creating your corneal flap, the thin flap of tissue that Dr. Seidenberg folds back in order to perform your LASIK procedure.  The IntraLase Method™ can only be performed using the IntraLase® FS Laser. With the IntraLase Method™, tiny pulses of laser light, a quadrillionth of a second each, pass harmlessly through the outer portion of your cornea and form a uniform layer of microscopic bubbles just beneath the surface of your eye. The exact dimensions of this layer of  bubbles is determined by Dr. Seidenberg based on what’s best for your eye, and are computer controlled for maximum precision.  When it’s time for your LASIK treatment to be performed, Dr. Seidenberg easily separates the tissue where these bubbles occur and then folds it back, thus creating your flap.

PRK is a non-invasive procedure that involves the use of laser technology – a computer-controlled laser beam emits cool pulses of ultraviolet light that reshapes the surface of the cornea.  The cornea maintains most of its original strength since a layer smaller than the thickness of a human hair is typically removed.

The AcrySof® ReSTOR® IOL (intraocular lens) is a new technology used in vision correction.  The procedure is the same technique that has been used for years in cataract surgery.  A small intraocular lens is implanted inside the eye.  This replacement lens improves the eyes’ ability to focus at near, far and intermediate distances.  In clinical studies, 80% of patients receiving the AcrySof® ReSTOR® IOL, reported that they NEVER wear glasses for any activities.

We pride ourselves on continually keeping abreast of changes and improvements in eye care so that we can improve your quality of life through the most advanced techniques, always with a steadfast dedication to patient satisfaction and the highest quality standards.

In keeping with our visionary techniques, we are now also performing vision correction surgery using the revolutionary new AcrySof ReSTOR replacement lens, a foldable intraocular lens implant using breakthrough technology to allow patients to experience the highest level of freedom from glasses ever achieved.
