Multifocal Intraocular Lenses

Multifocal Intraocular Lenses are designed to replace the natural crystalline lens in the eye in cases where they have become inflexible or where the lens has become cloudy from cataracts.

These lenses offer the possibility of seeing well at more than one distance, with less dependency on glasses or contacts.

The procedure takes under an hour and has only minimal discomfort. The original lens is removed and replaced with the new one in a small incision in the eye. The incision heals fast, and there are no stitches necessary. Usually, only one eye is corrected at a time, with about two to three weeks between procedures.

There has been extensive testing on intraocular lenses (IOL) and there have been millions of successful procedures performed. Excellent vision is usually achieved after the procedure. It is not discernable by sight, except to a trained ophthalmologist, and the eye does not feel any different after the procedure.
